First New Show of the Season
Two nights ago I watched what will be the first of the new shows that I pick up this season, FX’s Sons of Anarchy.
FX, in general, is the best basic cable network out there that regularly produces top quality shows. There have been a few missteps such as Dirt. There have been some shows that started off great that have taken strange turns that led them right down the dumper, Nip/Tuck for example. And there have been some shows that have been riviting from the start and still continue to be that way, The Shield, Rescue Me, 30 Days, and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelpha.
From what I can tell from this first episode FX could have a winner on their hands. They’ve tapped into a Soprano’s like vibe with SOA. The motorcycle gang is the defacto mafia family, and every bit as dirty. Although you get the sense that while the SOA run guns, murder and steal they are in it for more than themselves. They care about the town of Charming.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Sons of Anarchy will become The Sporanos, and it is doubtful that it will be anything close to it, I do think that it is going to be an entertaining look at the fringe culture of biker gangs. I look forward to more of this show, and hope that it has the legs, or maybe I should say the wheels, to last a while.
