Two Full Weeks In

We are now more than two full weeks into the Fall Season and there have been some bright shining spots and some dull ones as well.

A few weeks ago I wrote about Heroes starting up again and I was conflicted.  This show had a wonderful first season followed by what many felt was a sophomore slump.  Now three episodes into it’s third year I am kind of at a loss for what to say.  It’s better than the second season, but has no where near the firepower of the first.  I think the problem is that the story line has become just too convoluted.  There is too much time travel and too any alternative realities to make it easy to follow.  I’m not saying they every show needs to be dumbed down, but this isn’t a BBC mini-series, it’s a show about super heroes.  I’m not giving up on Heroes, yet, but it still needs to show me that it still has some of the magic of the first season in it.

HBO is also five weeks into the new seasons of Entourage and True Blood.

I love this show, I really do.  I’ve never missed an episode and it’s one of the few shows that never sits on the DVR for more than 24 hours.  All that being said, I’m disappointed in this season.  It is just not the same show it has been for the previous 4 seasons.  I don’t even know if I can put my fingers on why.  Maybe its the fact that Vince is no longer Vince and not the guy that all other guys want him to be.  Maybe it’s the fact that Drama is no longer the lovable wanna be and is now a successful working actor.  Or maybe it is just the fact that all the cool “Hollywood Insider” locations and events that viewers felt like they were privy to just because they were watching no longer seem all that cool any more.  Either way I seriously want this show to get back on track, especially since it has been renewed for at least one more season.

As I’d previously stated I’d had no expectations of True Blood.  Five episodes in and can still say the same.  I haven’t given up on it which says something in itself, but I’m not even thinking of it come Sunday night and normally don’t even think of watching until at least some time on Tuesday (the worst night for TV of the week).  The “vampire in the modern day world” story line is interesting, as is the back story that we saw last week, but I still haven’t felt that hook or bite (sorry) for that matter.  I’ll keep watching but I can see this this series going the way of John from Cincinnati.

How I Met Your Mother was average at best and hasn’t found it’s stride this season.  Chuck is now two weeks in and just as good as last season, I really love this show.  Just the right amount of comedy and action.  The Office comes back this week and NBC’s latest import from across the pond Kath & Kim starts also.  I have high hopes for it, but the reviews haven’t been great thus far.

In case you thought I could make it a whole post without mentioning Son’s of Anarchy you were wrong, it has been picked up for a second season.
