TV on the Interweb

How many people out there are watching their shows online in one format or another?  From what I’ve read, websites like Hulu and others which offer streaming video of some of our favorite shows online for free are becoming quite popular. As a matter of fact a major sticking point of this years writer strike was WGA members were not seeing money from streaming on-line content that they created.

While this is what I’ve read and heard, I’ve never actually met anyone that talks about watching their shows this way.  The only times I’ve used the internet for TV is when I’m watching shows that are no longer on the air.  In the past year I’ve spent more than a few of my lunch hours watching the entire run of Arrested Development.

I know that each of the major networks and many cable networks allow you to watch their current shows online with commercials added so that they don’t miss out on those important ad revenues.

I think I’m going to watch this season of Survivor on the CBS website since my DVR is already at it’s capacity for the number of recordings it can handle on Thursday nights (Not my fault, its the wife).  I’ll let you know how it is.

Speaking of Survivor did anyone else realize that this show, considered by many to be the granddaddy of reality television is on it’s 17th season.

By the way, if you are one of those that think that Survivor started the reality television craze, you are wrong.  It started the reality television contest craze, but MTV’s The Real World is the one that truly started it all, at least in America.
